  The Court of Audit published an audit report on the management of expenditure in the healthcare sector on 3 November 2011. The audit investigated how the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) had formulated policy to manage healthcare expenditure (€59.4 billion in 2011) and the results achieved.

• E-health, an innovation in long-term care

  The Court of Audit has investigated barriers to the dissemination of care innovations. We looked at one particular innovation in long-term care: the provision of health services by means of information and communication technology, also known as e-health. We investigated the measures the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) had taken since 2005 to remove barriers to the dissemination of care innovations.

• Implementation of the Care Institutions (Quality) Act

  This audit considers the implementation of the Care Institutions (Quality) Act. This Act is one of the instruments available to the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) to fulfil his responsibility for the quality of care. We looked at how the parties concerned have implemented the principles underlying the Act (self-regulation and supervision of supervision).
